FCCLA and the North Decatur High School Orientation to Life and Careers Class sponsored a Picture a Tobacco-Free Life Drawing Contest during the month of October at North Decatur Elementary School.

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade were asked to draw an activity that they enjoy doing instead of using tobacco. The drawings were hung in the hallways during Red Ribbon Week so the high school students could select the winners.

All students who participated received a prize bag consisting of an anti-smoking pencil, balloon, and sticker and candy.

The three top drawings in each grade were announced at the convocation held during Red Ribbon Week. The winners were, three each from kindergarten through sixth grade, Elena Bedel, Olivia O'Dell and Kristen Mathews; Andrew McCrary, Ryan Acton and Emily Martin; Abi Brandenburg, Jesse Closser and Rhegan Day; Eric Trenkamp, Ashley Linville and Kyle Kramer; Korbin Smith, Andrew Hocker and Donovan Meyer; Seth Gauck, Kody Owens and Tyler Hatcher; Erin Hoeing, Alison Wallpe and Nicole Brown.

Each of these students received $20 Wal-Mart gift cards. The prizes were purchased through a grant from the Indiana Tobacco for Prevention and Cessation.

“A big thank you to all the teachers of grades one through six who made this contest possible,” said Joyce Crane. “Thanks so much for all you do.”
