As the cold weather comes to Decatur County, Michael Layne is prepared to provide Decatur County residents with the hot drinks they may need to stay warm through the holidays.
Established nearly a year ago and reopened in March, MDL Coffee & Tea company provides assorted bean coffees, teas and cocoas.
"I worked in the coffee industry in Dallas," Layne said. "I felt this would be a good business for me."
Layne said MDL provides whole-bean coffees, which customers can buy and take home by the bag. However the establishment is also set up cafe style with chairs, tables and couches for patrons who want to come in for a hot drink and relax.
Some of LayneÕs whole-bean coffees include a Colombian Blend, a Guatemalan blend, his own full-city roast he calls the Decatur County Blend, and American Roast called the Morning Star Blend and a city roast he calls the Greensburg blend.
"Our coffee beans are all fair-trade coffees," Layne said. "Some of the proceeds go to (coffee-making countries) to keep the kids in the classroom and out of the coffee fields."
Other than coffee blends, MDL serves an variety of cocoas as well, like caramel brulee, raspberry with chocolate hazelnut, and regular cocoa. For the holidays, Layne said MDL has special cocoas like holiday fudge and gingerbread. Customers can also buy gift packages like the 12 Teas of Christmas and the 12 Cocoas of Christmas.
Another holiday flavor, Layne asserts, is the peppermint mocha, a big seller during the season.
MDL Coffee & Tea Company is located at 105 E. Main St., on the square.
