GREENSBURG - The North Decatur FFA chapter traveled to Purdue University recently to compete in the State FFA/4-H Dairy Foods Contest. A total of five high school members and nine junior members competed in the contest.

The junior team of Jacob Mays, Nelson Morehead, Kaleb Kramer and Ben Geis placed second overall in their division. Ben placed fifth overall individually.

The second junior team of Kelsey Kramer, Robin Leffel, Kelsey Johnson and Victoria Leffel placed fourth. Kramer placed sixth overall individually.

The high school team of Doug Volk, Aubrey Evans, Elizabeth Lecher and John Garlitch placed 14th as a team.

More than 50 teams and 300 individuals competed in the contest. Contestants utilized their knowledge and senses to evaluate dairy products including cheese identification, milk flavor defects, real versus imitation dairy food product identification and milking machine part defects.

The North Decatur FFA chapter is advised by Scott Johnson.
