GREENSBURG – Several local school archery teams competed last week at the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

The tournament had both a traditional target portion, as well as an optional tournament with three dimensional foam targets shaped like animals.

Students from St. Mary’s School competed at the elementary and middle school levels. Greensburg schools sent teams in the elementary, middle, and high school age brackets. North Decatur has students at the elementary and middle school level compete, with one individual high school archer shooting in the 3D tournament. South Decatur had teams competing at the elementary and high school level.

North Decatur sent teams for elementary and middle school in the 3D tournament, and South Decatur had two high school teams shoot.

More than 15,000 archers from across the country competed at the NASP National Tournament over three days. Next on the slate for some of these archers will be preparing for the world tournament, which will be held in Orlando, Florida on July 21 and 22. The support and goodwill of the Decatur County community will be vital in the weeks leading up to the world tournament.

Teams will be struggling to raise the funds to get the teams to the competition, and anyone wishing to make donations for that purpose is invited to contact the school for more details on how to do so.

Local teams advancing to the world level will require the support of the community, both financially to help with travel expenses and emotionally as they represent Decatur County while they compete at the world level.
