GREENSBURG - Weatherization Assistance Program is currently taking applications. Human Services, Inc. administers the weatherization assistance program in the counties of Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, Johnson and Shelby.
Weatherization services are free, cost-effective energy efficiency measures for existing residential and multi-family housing with low income residents. A trained provider comes to the home to perform an energy audit. The energy audit identifies energy problems found in the home. The trained providers will then prioritize the problems and determine the most effective measures to be taken to enhance the energy efficiency of the home and reduce energy expenses.
Weatherization does even more than make a home more energy-efficient. It often saves lives through repairs that will be made based upon the health and safety audit results. No two homes are alike. No two homes will require the same energy measures to reduce energy cost and enhance energy quality of the homes.
An example of service measures that might qualify are: attic, well and foundation insulation; air filtration testing and sealing; water heater replacement; refrigerator replacement; furnace clean and tuned; furnace safety checks; furnace replacement; home inspections, energy consumption education.
Eligibility guidelines for the weatherization program are 150 percent of the Federal poverty guidelines which are: family of one less than $15,660, family of two less than $21,000, family of three less than $26,000, family of four less than $31,800. For additional family members, add $5,400.
