GREENSBURG – An investigation into the death of an inmate incarcerated at the Decatur County Jail is underway.
According to a news release provided by Decatur County Sheriff Dave Durant, the Decatur County Sheriff's Department reports a medical incident that occurred at the Decatur County Detention Center, 119 E. Railroad Street, Greensburg, Saturday (March 16).
The release indicates DCSO deputies discovered a female inmate unconscious in her cell.
Deputies and units from the Greensburg Police Department immediately administered lifesaving techniques until Decatur County paramedics arrived.
The inmate was taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
The inmate, identified as Tisha White, 43, a resident of Tennessee, died Monday (March 18) at Eskenzai Hospital.
White was being held at the local detention center on four warrants, according to the information provided by Sheriff Durant.
Sheriff Durant contacted the Indiana State Police to assist, and ISP detectives are handling the investigation into White's death.
White's family has been notified, the news release states.
Sheriff Durant stated no further information on this matter will be made available until the investigation has been completed.
