GREENSBURG — The Decatur County Family YMCA recently celebrated the fifth year of their now annual preschool graduation ceremony, which consisted of their largest graduation class to date.

According to information provided by the local Y, this year’s graduating class featured 53 graduates. Due to the growing attendance numbers, the Y partnered with the Community Church of Greensburg to host the graduation ceremony.

The Y said with 53 graduates from the YMCA preschool program this year, attendance swelled to over 400 family members and friends, all cheering the first step of these little ones’ school achievement.

Graduates earned smiles, applause and tears of pride from the audience as they performed songs, sang a thank you tribute song for their teachers and proudly walked across the stage to receive their diploma.

Decatur County Family YMCA Child Care Director Donna Dykes thanked family, friends, volunteers, and those who assisted for their contributions.

Dykes specifically mentioned her preschool staff members, Julie Workman, Andrea Lee, Amanda Adkins, Danielle Morgan, Karissa Evans, Hailey Evans, Ruscia Sparks, Alyssa Barnes and Sara Kreischer.

“It takes all of us working together as a team to have such a successful program. These teachers are the reason our program continues to grow,” Dykes said.

Registration is already underway for the next school year, according to the local YMCA, and they’re reporting classes are “filling up quickly.”

Those who wish to register their child for the Decatur County Family YMCA’s preschool program can contact Dykes at 812-663-9622 or visit the YMCA at 1 YMCA Way in Greensburg.

The Decatur County Family YMCA’s preschool program is a half-day program that includes lessons on creative learning, music and movement, pre-writing and writing, arts and crafts, devotions, technology and more.

The Y is also recognized by the state of Indiana as a licensed preschool program.
