The Greensburg Boys 8A basketball team hosted Columbus North and traveled to Columbus Central last week. Greensburg lost both games that came down to the wire.
Columbus Northside won by the score of 39-30.
According to head coach Andrew Ruble, both teams battled throughout this game. The scores were tied up at half and end of the third, but ultimately Northside made more plays down the stretch.
“I was really pleased with the effort and intensity the kids brought today,” said Ruble. Greensburg cut it to 3 with 2:30 to play and give itself a chance to win. Columbus went on a 6-0 scoring run to close out the game.
To lead the Pirates in scoring was Luke Lozier with 10 points, Kyle Sellers with 7, Tucker Bailey 5, and Cody Bischoff and Craig Scheidler with 4 each. Craig led the way with 10 rebounds, and Kyle Sellers with 3 assists.
The Greensburg boys 8A team traveled to Columbus Central Saturday morning and came away with a 58-52 loss.
“I thought we played an overall great game besides the first couple minutes to start the second half,” said Ruble. Greensburg trailed early 16-7 but overcame that with a 24-6 run to take a 10-point advantage at half.
“To start the second half we did not take care of the ball well enough, and let Columbus start the half with a 8-0 run. Greensburg did recover and had a chance to win in regulation, but ultimately turned it over,” said Ruble. “In overtime, I have to give credit to Columbus hitting a 3 and pair of free throws early to force the Pirates to comeback from that. This was our fourth overtime game now and the kids are gaining valuable experience for the stretch run of the season.”
Luke Lozier led the team with 17 points, Kyle Sellers chipped in 16 and 4-for-8 from 3, Craig Scheidler 11, Cody Bischoff 5, and Tucker Bailey with a three.
Scheidler led with 10 rebounds, and Lozier and Bailey both recorded three assists each. Greensburg’s next game will be Tuesday at Franklin County.
