GREENSBURG — Decatur County REMC CEO Brett Abplanalp recently presented a group of talented St. Mary’s Elementary students cash prizes and awards for artistic and educational excellence at the school’s annual end of the year arts show.

St. Mary’s Elementary art teacher Carol Blankman presented REMC Awards of Merit to fifth-grader Wade Schutte, fourth-grader Ally Nobbe, third-graders Ally Wells and Henry Schutte, and second-graders Taylor Gould and McKenzie Lohrum.

The full St. Mary’s gymnasium audience extended their congratulations with applause as the proud students posed for a photo.

After that presentation, Abplanalp spoke to the excited students and their parents.

“The Decatur County REMC, along with 38 other electrical offices, host a statewide calendar art contest every year to highlight the talented youth across our state,” he said. “A winning submission is chosen from each grade to be featured each month in the calendar.”

Explaining that more than 2,200 submissions had been accepted for the current promotional campaign, he awarded second-graders Abby Porter and Rileigh Hash certificates and checks for $200 each.

Their art works will be two of the 12 months in the 2020 REMC customer calendar.
