GREENSBURG – Summer break is in its final stretch.
With just under a month left until school is back in session, registration dates are also approaching.
For Greensburg Community Schools, parents can register students on July 18 and July 19 at Greensburg Elementary School. On Tuesday, July 18 registration will run from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19.
Book fees are also due at the time of registration.
As the first day of school draws near, school officials from Greensburg are ready for the new year.
“We do have exciting programs at all three of our schools,” Greensburg Community School Corporation Superintendent Tom Hunter said. “Our goal every year is to produce a student that is well-rounded. I think we also want to take things that are working well and build on those.”
Decatur County Community Schools students can be registered on July 26, July 27 and July 28 at their school’s location. South Decatur students can be registered on July 26 from noon until 8 p.m. North Decatur schools’ on-site registration will be held from noon until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 27. Registration for all schools will run from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, July 28.
Online registration for county schools opened on Monday, July 10 and can be accessed through their Harmony 3 accounts.
“This is the first year for online registration, and it also makes it easier for parents to get information,” Decatur County Community Schools Superintendent Jerrod Burns said.
As previously reported by the Daily News, the county schools will start the school year with Burns, who attained the position on July 1, as superintendent. Burns has worked as an administrator, as an assistant principal and principal at Clark-Pleasant schools, Shelbyville schools and most recently has been the principal at Green Township Elementary in Martinsville.
Burns indicated that he’s excited for this new journey.
“Starting this new position and learning the Decatur County way,” Burns said about what he’s looking forward to this school year. “The first day of school is the greatest day of the year.”
Orientation for incoming 7th graders at South Decatur High School will be Wednesday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m. Orientation for incoming 7th graders at North Decatur High School will be Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m.
Staff, parents and students may also want to take into consideration breakfast and lunch prices for the upcoming school year.
Greensburg Schools’ breakfast is priced at $1.40 for students and $1.80 for adults. Lunch prices are set at $2.45 for students and $3.45 for adults. Milk is 50 cents.
At the county schools, breakfast is priced at $1.40 for elementary students, $1.90 for high school students, and $2.25 for adults. Lunch prices are set at $2.25 for elementary students, $2.50 for high school students, and $3.25 for adults. Milk will be 30 cents.
The first day of school for Greensburg Community School Corporation is Aug. 2. Decatur County Community Schools will return on Aug. 3.
Another local school, St. Mary’s Catholic School, will hold on-site registration from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, and from 8:30 a.m. until noon on Sunday, July 16. St. Mary’s students will return on Aug. 2.
