The North Decatur Elementary Spell Bowl team found great success in their 2019 competition season. On Monday, Nov. 18 the 4th-6th grade combined team secured first place in their division at the regional IASP meet in Rushville. Sixth-grader Ava Lecher helped lead the team with a near perfect spelling round for which she received a special ribbon. Later in the week, the Chargers continued on to the Kiwanis Decatur County Spell Bowl where the 4th grade team earned first place. The top speller out of all fourth grade teams was Tate Hellmich. Additional key spellers in the fourth grade win included Kaylee Weaver and Sophie Rohls. The 6th grade team earned second place with key spellers including Nolan Barber and Chase Christianson. The teams were coached by Katy Prairie. Other participants included Simon Barber, Serenity Eicher, Mariah Volk, Jewel Howard, MaKenzie Weaver, Jacob Gearhart, Giselle George and Chloe Hall.
