Dear Editor,

I was a union member for thirty-two years, and I think they are a necessity, but there are things I didn't like. The union supplies 90 percent of the Democratic Party's funds. I am a Republican, and 28 to 30 percent of the union people are Republicans. That percentage should go to the Republican Party. And another thing - right to work is a basic right. To have to join a union to work is against everything we believe in.

The union helped shut down the railroads. The railroads had to have a fireman on diesel locomotives and a conductor on freight trains. It took the railroads 30 years to get to the Supreme Court to get this stopped. The unions have overstepped their boundary in a lot of areas - factories, schools, airlines and many others - and they don't want to negotiate anything. Isn't it time to sit down and talk about something other than wages and benefits?

The unions are doing the same thing the companies did before the unions.

Dear Editor,

A couple weeks ago on a Sunday morning, the house next to me caught fire and it totaled the house. The family that lived there had nine children. As I understand it, they cannot find anyone to rent to them because of this. I have lived in my house for more than 30 years. I have had several families live in the house that burnt, and all of them have had four to five children. I would like to tell you that the family with nine children were the best behaved children ever to live in that house. I hope someone will give them a chance. I don't think you will be sorry.
