Senior Ethan Bailey recorded a hat trick to lead the Greensburg boys soccer team over visiting Rushville, 3-0 Saturday.
Greensburg (10-0-1) reached double digits in wins for the first time in the program's history.
The Pirates got on the board when Bailey scored on a long pass from senior captain Daniel Fayette, and Greensburg went ahead at the 37:24 mark of the first half. Bailey made it 2-0 when he scored on a long kick from junior defensive player Riley Billieu at 25:15.
Greensburg last scored with 6:20 left in the game. Junior Edgar Cruz deflected the ball to Bailey off junior Tyler Burcham's corner kick, and Bailey finished with a goal for the 3-0 final score.
The Pirates took 18 shots on goals and allowed Rushville just two shots. Greensburg maintained possession during most of the match.
Fayette, Billieu and Cruz all ended the match with one assist each.
Junior goalkeeper Austin Schultz tallied two saves for the win.
Head coach Rick Fayette said an injury kept freshman starting midfielder Zach Fong from playing. Greensburg made additional adjustments to the starting lineup and several changes to player positions during the match.
He said freshmen Kyle Howard and Evan Bailey, seniors Addison Evans and Austin Atkinson, along with exchange student Lukas Oberbeck, got valuable varsity playing time during the match.
"It was another great team effort by the Pirates today," said Fayette. "Both the offense and defense played well for the win. The team now has to focus as we have three tough conference games next week to prepare for."
The Greensburg junior varsity squad defeated Rushville 2-0.
The Pirates begin a crucial stretch of games with three conference games in a row, beginning Tuesday at home against Batesville. The Bulldogs visit at 5 p.m. Tuesday. East Central visits at 5 p.m. Thursday, and the Pirates travel to Lawrenceburg Saturday for a noon game.
