An elite group of Indiana’s senior basketball players will gather at Batesville High School on Saturday to prepare for the 21st annual North-South All-Star Classic.

This girls’ and boys’ doubleheader will be played on Sunday with the girls’ game starting at 2 p.m. The boys’ game will follow at 4 p.m. The North-South Indiana All-Star Classic is sponsored by Batesville High School, Hoosier Basketball Magazine and Pacesetter Sports of Terre Haute.

Twenty-two girls will compete in the first half of this doubleheader. Three 2009 Indiana All-Stars highlight the North team - Miss Basketball runner-up Kelly Faris (Heritage Christian) who will attend Connecticut; Chrissy Stiffen of Carmel, a Bowling Green (Ohio) recruit, and Skyler Gick (Benton Central), a Valparaiso signee.

Two South girls are also 2009 Indiana All-Stars. They are Western Michigan recruit DeAirra Coss (Ben Davis) and Indiana Hoosier to be Aulani Sinclair (Eminence).

Six of the state’s top scorers for the 2008-2009 season are split evenly between the North and the South girls’ squads. The North includes Charae Richardson (Lafayette Jefferson) - 19 ppg), Mandi Johnson (Crawfordsville - 18.8 ppg) and Margee Reeder (Muncie Southside - 26.2 ppg). On the South team is the state’s second leading scorer Andrea Rademacher (Borden -26.2 ppg) along with Indianapolis Cathedral’s Adrienne Sahm (21.9 ppg) and Jordan Ogle (Columbus East - 18 ppg).

Four-time state champion coach Rich Risinger (Class 2A Heritage Christian) will coach the North team. Two-time state champion and Hall of Fame coach Donna Cheatham (Southwestern of Hanover) will direct the South squad.

Twenty-two boys will perform in the second game with four of the state’s top scorers for the past season competing in the Classic. Three of them suit up for the North team - Scott Wood (Marion 24.8 ppg), Frankfort’s Stevie Loveless (24.5 ppg) and Mooresville’s Matt Kenney (24.4 ppg). Indiana’s fifth leading scorer for 2008-2009 was host Batesville’s Colt Ryan (26 ppg), a South participant.

Other prolific point producers include five North players. They are DJ Byrd (North Montgomery - 23.5 ppg), RJ Mahurin (Rockville - 23.4 ppg), Andrew Smith (Covenant Christian - 23.3. ppg), Derek Elston (Tipton - 21.9 ppg) and Jake Odum (Terre Haute South - 21.9 ppg).

Nine Division I recruits who will matriculate to in-state colleges are playing in this game. They are Byrd (Purdue); Elston and Jordan Hulls (Bloomington South (Indiana); Mahurn and Odum (Indiana State); Matt Kenney and Tommy Kurth of Kent (Valparaiso); Smith (Butler) and Ryan (Evansville).

The North boys will be coached by Rockville’s Dave Mahurin and Hauser’s Bob Nobbe will guide the South.
