The wrestling team earned their first win Tuesday night by defeating South Dearborn 57-49.

“The Pirates wrestled extremely well,” said head coach Matt Cochran. They went 9-5 in matches wrestled and overcame an 18-point deficit caused by forfeits.

Winning matches for the Pirates were Brandon Butz, Dakota Deiwert, Taylor Reed, Austin Brown, Blake Wood, Joel Chase, Corey Hiutch, Drew Neisius, and Matt Scheumann and Derrick Manuel.

Cochran said he was "pleased with the effort. I thought we wrestled extremely well tonight. We were aggressive on our feet and on the mat. This is a good win for our guys."

In exhibition action, the Pirates continued to wrestle well by winning 14 of 17 matches. Joe Buening, Blade Cain, and Joel Chase each won two matches. Adding wins were Tyler Brown, Dakota Deiwert, Taylor Reed, Devin Ruble, Blake Wood, Corey Hitch, Andrew Douglass, and Austin Brown.

The next event for the Pirates will be Saturday at the Triton Central Super Duals, which begins at 9 a.m. The Pirates will wrestle Center Grove, Beech Grove, Triton Central, Shenandoah, and Knightstown.
