Second Chargers Hall of Fame class announced

GREENSBURG — The second annual North Decatur High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class has been selected and will be officially inducted on Sat., Jan. 19, 2019.

Four new inductees were selected as members of the 2019 Hall of Fame Class.

The 2019 inductees include: Paul Buening (Class of 1996), Scott Buening (Class of 1995), Andy Crane (Class of 1996) and Hillary (Wenning) Wallpe (Class of 2007).

All four had outstanding careers as Chargers, but went on to have great college athletic careers as well.

Paul Buening was a three sport athlete at North Decatur, playing football, basketball and baseball. He accolades include: 1994-95 All-Conf. in basketball and baseball; 1995-96 All-Conf. in football, basketball and baseball. Collegiate career: Went on to play basketball at Franklin College from 1996-2000 and was a 3-year starter for the Grizzlies. Collegiate accolades: HCAC All-Conf. (98-99 & 99-00). HCAC Player of the Year (2000) and Div. III 4th Team All-American (2000).

Scott Buening was a three sport athlete at North Decatur, playing football, basketball and baseball. His accolades include: 1994 FB All-Conf; 1994 FB UPI 1st Team All-State; 1994 FB Indiana South All-Star; 1995 Baseball All-Conf. and 1994-95 North Decatur Male Athlete of the Year. Collegiate career: Played Football at University of Dayton & Hanover College. Collegiate accolades: HCAC All-Conf. in FB (1998 and 1999), three NCAA Div. III playoff appearances. Buening also coached the Southridge High School football team to the 2017 IHSAA 2A State Championship.

Andy Crane earned 10 varsity letters in three sports at North Decatur. He ran cross country and track, while playing basketball in the winter. He accolades include: 1992-96 All-Conf. in CC; 1995 & 96 All-Conf. in track; 1994 & 1995 Semi State Qualifier in CC; 1995 Sectional and conference champion in cross country. He still holds the ND 5K XC record. Collegiate accolades: 1996-99 Hanover College CC Most Valuable Runner; 1999 Hanover college CC All-Conf; 1999-2000 Hanover college Outstanding Senior Male Athlete.

Hillary (Wenning) Wallpe maxed out on varsity letter at North Decatur with 16 across four sports. She ran cross country, played golf and basketball, and ran track in the spring. Her high school accolades include: 2003-06 Golf regional qualifier; 2003-06 CC All-Conf.; All-County & regional qualifier; 2004-07 BB All-Conf.; 2004-2007 Track All-Conf; Track regional qualifier; 2005 sectional champion 400 Meters; 2006 finished 13th in state track meet in 400 M; 2007 state qualifier in 800 M; Broke numerous conf., county, and school track records; 2005-06 and 2006-07 North Decatur Female Athlete of the Year. Collegiate accolades: Played four years of basketaball, ran three years of track and competed in one season of golf at University of Indianapolis. Member of the Distance Medley Relay team at U Indy, which set a school record.

Another great Hall of Fame Class that will be inducted on Jan. 19 between the JV and Varsity boys BB games vs Franklin Co.
