North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School conducted an official field dedication ceremony Friday before the football game against Edinburgh. The football field was dedicated to Ed Kaelin in front of the new bleachers. Kaelin served North Decatur from 1979 to 1994 as a custodian, while maintaining outdoor facilities and the football field.
Kaelin retired as a milkman in Cincinnati in 1977. The family moved to Lake Santee in Decatur County, and he served North until he retired in 1994.
Kaelin passed away in 2001.
Kaelin's sons are Ray (New Jersey), Tom (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Larry (Plano, Tex.).
